Botox Q&A

What is Botox®?

Botox is a cosmetic injectable that reduces the appearance of dynamic wrinkles formed because of facial motions, like smiling, squinting, and frowning. When Botox enters your body, it paralyzes certain muscles in your face. This causes the muscles to relax, making your skin smoother.

Botox provides near-instant results and limited side effects. Since it’s minimally invasive, there’s little downtime or recovery period.

How do I prepare for Botox injections?

At Serenity Healthcare, PLLC, Shanekwah administers Botox injections on-site.

First, she reviews your medical records and asks about your goals. Make sure to let Shanekwah know about any medications you take and if you have any allergies or underlying medical conditions. If you take aspirin or another blood thinner, Shanekwah might ask you to stop in the days before your injections to prevent bruising.

What types of wrinkles does Botox treat?

Shanekwah uses Botox to treat several types of wrinkles, including:

  • Frown lines (vertical lines between the eyebrows)
  • Crow’s feet (lines at the outer edges of the eyes)
  • Worry lines (horizontal lines on the forehead)
  • Bunny lines (horizontal lines across the bridge of the nose)

The number of Botox injections that you receive depends on several factors, including the size, location, and severity of the wrinkles.

Is Botox painful?

Shanekwah administers Botox via injection. If you’re afraid of needles or have a low pain threshold, let Shanekwah know. She can numb your skin with ice or a topical anesthetic, ensuring your comfort.

Does Botox present any side effects?

Botox is safe and usually well-tolerated, but there are risks. After your appointment, avoid massaging, rubbing, or applying pressure to the injection sites. These motions may cause Botox to spread into other areas of your body and affect your results.

During the first 24 hours, it’s normal to experience side effects like minor bruising, swelling, and discomfort. If your symptoms persist or worsen, contact Shanekwah immediately.

How long do the results of Botox last?

The results of Botox typically last 3-6 months* and sometimes longer. If you want your skin to remain smooth and wrinkle-free, Shanekwah recommends scheduling maintenance appointments every few months.
